Sculpture
Manipulating raw materials born from geologic processes and our subsequent relationship with them is a fascination of mine. In its unfired state, clay possesses a sculptural quality which allows me to expressively create pieces that are intuitive and authentic. Working in this manner is an immersive experience which allows me to explore humankind’s ambiguous connection with clay by creating forms that recall naturally wrought compositions or fossilized artifacts. Risen from the earth these transformations reference time’s passage and remind us that we are inextricably linked to our natural world, and more importantly the ephemerality of life and the fragility of existence.
